Artist statement
January 2003
John Davis is a fine art painter who embraces visual realism to achieve his own eclectic brand of story telling. The artist's work intends to direct on stage a cinematic snapshot of the drama and comedy of human nature.
Davis champions the influences of Edward Hopper and Tamara de Lempicka, the queen of deco in 1920s Paris. Each of these artists incorporates a dramatic contrast of color use and excessive layering of paints. Also clearly relevant in comparison are the real beginnings of a singular voice with each work. Experiencing an original by John Davis easily leads to discovering another.
The artist has achieved considerable recognition as an illustrator and designer. He makes his home in Franklin, TN with wife, Lynn and three sons.
