Artist statement

I have always felt a spiritual connection with nature and look to it for artistic inspiration. Painting landscapes and still-lifes forces me to stop the roar of life's engines and live totally in the moment of creativity. Making a physical connection with the outdoors gives me a sense of freedom as I try to interpret what gives the subject its energy and put that on canvas. Artist John Budkin once told me "painting is your personality, it's who you are." I begin with an original concept, but at a certain point, the painting dictates the direction it's going. I must go with the flow and allow my art to happen. I have learned that being creative is a process. A thinking, planning, doing process. I can't rush it or make it happen, it comes naturally. Painting is my personality, it's who I am.
