Artist statement
I paint because I find a peaceful joy in creating each new work. Painting causes me to sing. Any angst I experience flies away as color flows across the canvas or paper. I am filled with gratitude when others are able to share the beauty of a moment in a tangible form through my paintings. As I lay down each purposeful stroke of color on my canvas, the dance begins. The nuances of color and form unite to draw others into the rhythm of beauty that is all around us. Through my art and writing I convey the vision I see spiritually as well as physically of the goodness of God to us all.
The observation of light and shadow in life cause me to want to capture the moment and express it through art and words. Whether it is the light in a persons eyes, a unique grin, or the languid gesture of someone at rest, the image can stir a need to paint. I paint many subjects from contemporary abstract to portraits. My interests are varied and so is my painting style. I paint with watercolor and acrylic on paper, canvas, and prepared panels. Some of my paintings call for a loose painterly style, contemporary impressionism, while others are painted in a realism style. I like energy and peace to be reflected in my paintings. So I usually paint that which moves me emotionally. I am drawn by intensity and peace which almost seems paradoxical. Yet, think of the ocean. It has amazing power yet it can appear as flat as a mirror. My art is my emotional response to the outward and inward energy expressed through color applied to a static surface.
Resume / bio
As a small child I was always drawn to be outside. Naturally curious, I brought home countless turtles, flowers, leaves, and an endless of array of treasure from my adventures. I still bring home an occasional object from my forays, but usually I bring home a fresh perspective on a painting project. I have traveled and lived in many places throughout the United States. My mom helped instilled a love of a new adventure on the horizon by taking me on countless car trips throughout the United States. I am drawn by the natural beauty of my surroundings. Whether it is a blue glass tumbler capturing the sunlight, or the lop-sided grin of a child. These are moments worthy of memory and effort to capture by artistic expression. I started drawing and painting in response to a desire to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and God’s love for man. Art Parables, Visions of His Word™ is the name that my contemporary Christian art is found under. The paintings are the images and concepts that the Lord has given me as I study His Word. I began painting in earnest while I was living in Maui, Hawaii. The more I paint and study, the more I learn. Practice is knowledge gained. I now paint full time.
