Artist statement

Art can be an item of intrinsic beauty or interest, a purely aesthetic expression. While I admire that, I believe the best art is that which allows the viewer to experience a reality and truth, but in a unique and exquisite way. The result of all good art is an emotional stirring, and I paint observations or imaginations that move me emotionally. The test of artpainting, music, literature–is whether the viewer feels renewal, discovery, or affirmation. The longer lasting and recurring this response, the better the art.

I strive to capture on canvas the beauty and truth of a subject, be it a grandmother's blissful moment with a new grandson, the quiet, inviting beauty of flowers, the peaceful majesty of a landscape, or the tense excitement of polo players vying for a shot. Art that brings to the viewer exquisite moments of life is worth striving for, worth seeing, and worth having.
