Artist statement
There is a physical connection to nature and mankind is dependent on nature for our substance. Unseen, lies the spiritual connection; where the heart beats with the pulse of creation.
It is in that realm where I am inspired. It ignites a desire to paint from life, to photograph life ... to experience and embrace the gift of life. Influenced by the Impressionists, I work in the medium of oil and prefer to paint outdoors where the atmosphere creates color and mood; where the light shifts the palette around at will. But canvas does not confine my explorations of light. Using the same concept of working plein air, I follow an old technique of painting fiber- base black and white photographs, combining realism with the abstraction of brushstrokes. All the while, going after those fleeting moments of time in the natural, and participating in the unique effects of the world environment.
