Artist statement
I consider myself an adventurous figurative painter, and I love mythic and narrative elements in art.
I struggle to be technically adept and historically literate.
I embrace art of the past, present, and future which embraces beauty and form.
Resume / bio
Greg Decker is a professional artist (painter) from New York City who recently emigrated to Nashville to begin his own series of workshops in traditional painting. He is a figurative painter, producing oil paintings which are often ‘mythical’ in content, as well as portraits and still lifes.
Greg holds two Master of Fine Arts Degrees, one from Cranbrook Academy of Fine Art, and one from the New York Academy of Art, and has studied at Oxford University in England. In New York, he taught with MoMA, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where he specialized on drawing in the galleries.
