Artist statement
I think art is a contagious means of visually manifesting dreams, ideas and emotions.
Over the last 5 years the majority of my work has focused on the contradiction of opposing energies and emotions. The images I have used to represent these forces have been recreated from advertising and specifically American popular cultural archetypes. My compositions are intended to create an immediate connection with the viewer and work on multiple levels of meaning. Their effect is familiar and strange all at the same time.
This style of painting was initiated in reaction to the abstract expressionist style that I worked in for most of the first half of the 1990's. I enjoy alternating painting techniques and projects. Currently I am working towards combining my abstract and representational styles into something more balanced and personally relevant. I believe good art should communicate sincere concentrated effort and spiritual energy; it should resonate with those who come into contact with.
Life is about growth and change, so is art.
