NASHVILLE TN – Scores of local arts organization leaders are preparing for an important annual ritual – "grants time." The action begins Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at 3:30 p.m. when the MNAC holds its annual Grants Workshop in the Joe Kraft Conference Center, Suite 420 of Cummins Station, 209 10th Avenue South, Nashville.

Obtaining annual operating support, program, and creation grants from the Metro Nashville Arts Commission is a seven-month process from start to finish – application to first check. These grants are open to not-for-profit organizations chartered in the state of Tennessee with 501(c)(3) IRS tax-exempt status that produce, present, and/or directly support programs, projects, and/or works in the arts that enrich the artistic experience of Nashville citizens in a significant way. These organizations must be headquartered in and have a substantial portion of their programming within Metropolitan Nashville. All grants require a cash match.

Arts Commission Grants Program Manager Jonathan Saad will introduce the grant guidelines and discuss changes to the grant form and instructions. Prospective grant applicants are urged to attend this informative session to learn about the grants process. After the Jan. 20 session, FY 2006 guidelines, applications and instructions will be available online at www.artsnashville.org or may be ordered by contacting the MNAC office at 862-6720 or arts@nashville.gov.

Completed grant applications must be delivered to the Metro Arts Commission office before 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2005. Late applications will not be accepted.

Last July the MNAC awarded thirty-eight grants totaling over $2 million in local funds to thirty-four not-for-profit arts organizations.
