Mary Baker to serve as Interim Executive Director of Metro Arts Commission
09 May 2003
NASHVILLE, TN - Metropolitan Nashville Arts Commission Chairman Walter Schatz announced that the Center for Nonprofit Management (CNM) will provide an interim executive director for the Metro Arts Commission. Mary Baker, principal of The Baker Company and adjunct consultant with CNM, will serve as interim executive director of the Metro Arts Commission.
"Mary Baker has extensive experience in organizational and management development, and strategic planning, said Schatz. She has experience in the corporate, academic and not-for-profit sectors." "Mary will serve the Commission until the Metro Arts Commission Search Committee, chaired by Commissioner Jeff Ockerman, identifies a permanent executive director. Her leadership is crucial during this important time as the MNAC's first public art projects are beginning and the annual grants program is underway."
Active professionally with regional and national organizations, Baker has provided consulting services to First American Bank, St. Thomas Hospital, and Bridgestone Firestone Americas. At Crittenton Services, Inc., the not-for-profit agency where she served as CEO, Baker developed strong internal systems to support the achievement of a customer-driven strategic plan, including management development, internal communication, and training. During her tenure as CEO, the agency doubled in size, quadrupled the number of clients served and increased annual contributions by 280 percent. She has also worked with CNM as an adjunct consultant for the past five years and completed four other interim executive placements during that time.
At the Frist Center, a management consulting center at Belmont University's Massey College of Business, BAKER served as executive director and as an instructor at the University's Center for Quality and Professional Development. She facilitated strategic planning processes for companies that own and manage retirement communities and she developed and taught management courses.
Baker completed her B.S. in education at Quincy College in Quincy, IL and earned a master's degree from Loyola University of Chicago.
