Tennessee Arts Commission Arts Build Communities
Arts Build Communities is a program funded by the Tennessee General Assembly and administered in cooperation with the Tennessee Arts Commission and the Metro Nashville Arts Commission.
- $1,200 Actor’s Bridge
- Act Like a GRRRL—A year-round autobiographical writing and performance program for young women ages 12-18.
- $1,500 American Roots Music Education
- Mexican-American Music and Culture Educational Programs—Free educational presentations about Mexican-American music and how it relates to American history.
- $1,600 Arts at the Airport Foundation
- Tennessee Jazz and Blues music series at the Airport—Free jazz performances in the airport terminal.
- $1,000 Circle Players
- Once Upon a Mattress—A comical musical production base on the fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea”.
- $800 Creative Artists of Tennessee
- Media Arts Program taght by “Mr Music”—Utilizing the latest technology to teach the fundamentals of digital music creation to young people.
- $1,200 Flatrock Heritage Foundation
- Hands Together in Flatrock—The 2nd annual music and arts festival held at Coleman Park.
- $2,700 Global Education Center
- Marketing for Arts Access concert series—Marketing support for a multi-cultural concert series.
- $1,000 Ladies Hermitage Association
- The Hermitage and Sister Style productions performance—A specially created production/performance depicting the lives of slaves at the Hermitage. The activity will be featured during Black History Month.
- $1,000 Lakewood Theatre Company
- Come Sing Jimmy Jo—Workshop, production, and performance of the play “Come Sing Jimmy Jo”
- $1,600 Middle Tennessee Mental Health and Substance Abuse Coalition
- Creative Arts Project—Mental health consumers and edgehill neighborhood residents will create a permanent mural at the Edgehill Center. Artist Michael McBride will lead the project.
- $1,400 Nashville Ballet
- Artists Chat and Master Class—A special master class with renowned choreographer James Canfield.
- $2,800 Nashville Children’s Theatre
- Frankenstein—The fall 2008 production of Frankenstein for children.
- $1,900 Nashville Jazz Workshop
- Jazz on the Move—A series of four jazz lecture-performances presented in collaboration with the Frist Center.
- $1,000 Nashville Jazz Orchestra
- 08-09 Concert Series—Special concert featuring Mandy Barnett presented at the Ingram Center for the Performaing Arts.
- $3,000 Nashville Opera
- Nashville Opera on Tour—A one act opera of “The Magic Flute” will be performed for more than twenty-one Middle Tennessee schools.
- $2,200 Nashville Public Radio
- Bluegrass Breakdown—A one hour weekly radio program featuring live in-studio performances, discussions, and historic materials.
- $2,500 The Nashville Shakespeare Festival
- Shakespeare’s Case—An original touring production featuring modern language, original music, audience participation, comedy and drama.
- $2,000 Nashville Symphony
- MLK Let Freedom Riing—16th annual concert honoring Martin Luther King presented free to the community.
- $1,200 Oasis Center
- Nashville Spoken Word Movement—Weekly spoken word writing and presentation workshops for teens ages 13 to 19 at the Nashville Public Library.
- $1,000 Peoples Branch Theatre
- Molly Sweeney—Production of a story of a blind woman who has her sight restored and then must relearn the world through her new sense.

- 2009 Legacy Program Developmental Theatre—Twenty at-risk youth will participate in developmental theater training and performance under the direction of Clay Harris.
- $1,400 Senior Center for the Arts
- Café Concert Series—Daytime concerts featuring popular musical artists.
- $1,400 Street Theatre Company
- No More Secrets—A musical theater production which works with the Sexual Assault Center to tour the elementary schools in Nashville.
- $1,900 Tennessee Performing Arts Center
- Humanities Outreach Tennessee—Five workshops featuring artists from TPAC’s Family Field Trips and HOT.
- $1,000 Tennessee Repertory Theatre
- Essays in Persuasion—Workshop and readings of new play by Victoria Stewart.
- $1,200 Tennessee Theater Company
- School Tour—An in-school theater tour of Pinocchio for middle Tennessee schools.
- $1,400 Tennessee Women’s Theatre Project
- Women’s Work—Production, celebration, and showcase of women-created stage works.
