Nashville Arts Alert!

TO: Nashville Arts Organizations,
12 January 2004

Happy New Year!

The Metro Arts Commissioners and Staff wish you all the best in 2004! We are excited to begin a new year of promoting and advocating for the arts in Nashville Davidson County. And who wouldn't be excited when the arts deliver so much energy and talent to our community. One only needs to look at last week's Nashville Scene to realize just how much is going on in the art world. Be sure and check organization websites for even greater detail.

The Commission is pleased to congratulate Commissioner Judy Liff Barker who, along with John Seigenthaler, has been named Nashvillian of the Year by Easter Seals Tennessee. We also offer best wishes to David Alford on his move to the REP and to David Grapes and Brian Niece as they go forward in their careers. Welcome! to Matt Chiorini as People's Branch Theatre Artistic Director.

There are changes in the MNAC Grant Guidelines for the upcoming year, so plan to reserve a seat at one of the grant workshops later this month. See details below.

Children, families, seniors, individuals, all enjoy the arts. We have much to celebrate and look forward to another great year for the arts!

MNAC begins annual grants cycle

We have made changes to the MNAC Grant Guidelines. One of the most significant changes is in the area of accountability. The Commission takes very seriously its charge to be good stewards of tax dollars as it oversees the grants program.

We are placing even greater emphasis on the completeness and accuracy of grant applications at the time of submission. We want to provide as much assistance on the front end as possible so that the applications will be correct and complete upon submission.

To help you be as prepared as possible, we are hosting two grantwriting workshops conducted by Bernard Turner, Ed.D, a grantwriting expert and adjunct consultant with the Center for Nonprofit Management. During these workshops we'll present the changes in the grant guidelines and grant application instructions, plus provide assistance for completing the application, and offer best practices for writing successful grants.

If you plan to submit an application, be sure to sign up for one of the workshops on either Monday morning, January 26, or Thursday afternoon, January 29. See below for details.
